Home Remedies for Dysuria

Dysuria is a condition when there is a pain or difficulty in passing urine. It is caused due to bacterial infection in the urinary tract or due to soreness and inflammation in the vagina. According to a research, dysuria mostly affects the women when compared to men. This is not a disease itself, but only a symptom for other diseases. People affected by dysuria feel pain or burning sensation during urination in the urethra or the perineum.

Home Remedies for Dysuria

The following are the natural ways to prevent the discomfort and during dysuria or painful urination.

1. Water

Keeping the body hydrated is the best way to deal with all sorts of urinary tract infections. During dysuria or painful urination, it is important to increase the water intake. This will flush down the infection causing bacteria and help in getting rid of the toxins from the body. This will help in bringing down the body temperature and drain out all the heat.


What to Do?

  • Drink several cups of water in a day
  • Eat water-based fruits and vegetables
  • Soups, smoothies, broths and juices will help in keeping the body hydrated
  • Sip small amounts of water throughout the day
  • You may also suck on some ice cubes occasionally
2. Warm Compress

Warm compress has soothing effects during the pain and discomfort caused due to dysuria. The heat of the warm compress helps in minimizing the bladder pressure and reduces the pain.


What to Do?

  • Apply a warm compress on the lower abdomen for 5 minutes
  • Keep it for some time and then repeat the remedy 3 to 4 times a day
  • You may also use heating pad to get relief from the pain
3. Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar has strong antibacterial and antifungal properties. It helps in combating the infections caused in the urinary tract. It also helps in reducing the pain in the urethra that causes painful urination. ACV is rich in enzymes, potassium and other useful minerals that help in restoring the body’s natural pH balance.


What to Do?

  • Add one tablespoon of raw, unfiltered apple cider vinegar and one teaspoon of raw honey to a glass of warm water
  • Drink this mixture 20 minutes before every meal
  • You may also add one or two cups of apple cider vinegar to the bathwater
  • Soak in it for 15 to 20 minutes
  • Repeat this one daily until the condition improves
4. Baking Soda

Baking soda helps in easing dysuria due to its alkaline properties. It helps in reducing acidity of the urine which in turn helps in easing the burning sensations during urination. It also reduces frequent urges to urinate. Also it helps in balancing the body’s pH level.


What to Do?

  • Add one teaspoon of baking soda to a glass of water and stir it well
  • Drink it on an empty stomach in the morning
  • Repeat this remedy for a week until results are seen
5. Yogurt

Plain or unsweetened yogurt is excellent remedy for treating painful urination problem. It has active cultures that are very helpful in promoting healthy bacteria and kills the bad bacteria in the gut. It helps in strengthening the immune system and fighting off infections. It also helps in maintaining the vaginal pH and prevent vaginal infections.


What to Do?

  • Eat 2 to 3 cups of plain yogurt daily
  • You may also make yogurt smoothies
  • Also, you can dip a tampon in yogurt and insert in the vagina
  • Keep it for 2 hours and then repeat
  • Do this twice a day until the infection subsides
6. Lemon

Lemon has acidic properties but it has alkalizing effects on the body. It strengthens the immune system and prevents all sorts of infection. It helps in reducing the pain during dysuria due to its antibacterial and antiviral properties.


What to Do?

  • Squeeze the juice of one lemon into a glass of lukewarm water
  • Add one teaspoon of raw honey and mix it along with the above mixture
  • Drink it every day on empty stomach as the first thing in the morning
7. Ginger

Ginger is rich in compounds that have antibacterial and antiviral effects on the body. It helps in flushing out the harmful bacteria that causes urinary infection and leads to dysuria.


What to Do?

  • Grind ginger into paste and mix one tablespoon of it to raw honey
  • Consume this mixture daily
  • Also, you may add one tablespoon of ginger juice to a glass of lukewarm milk or water and drink it daily
  • Alternatively, you may also consider drinking ginger tea regularly to reduce the dysuria symptoms

The above home remedies are highly effective in treating dysuria or painful urination.
