1. Coconut Oil

Coconut oil is rich in vitamin E; hence it is very good for the skin. It has been used since ages to treat dark elbow and knees. It lightens the skin tone and prevents dryness by keeping the skin hydrated and moisturized. It also remove the dead skin cells in these areas thereby repairing the dark and damaged skin.

How to Use?

  • Apply coconut oil on the elbows and knees after every shower
  • Gently massage some coconut oil for one or two minutes
  • Reapply as and when needed to keep away dryness
  • Alternatively, prepare a mixture with one teaspoon of coconut oil and half teaspoon of lemon juice
  • Rub this solution on the dark elbows and knees and let it sit for 15 to 20 minutes
  • Wipe it off with paper towels
  • You may also add enough coconut oil to one tablespoon of walnut powder and make a thick paste
  • Use this paste to exfoliate the dark patches around the elbows and knees
  • Repeat this remedy twice or thrice a week
2. Lemon

Lemon has natural bleaching property that exfoliates the skin well. It is loaded with vitamin C that helps in removing dead cells and lightening the skin tone. It also promotes healthy regeneration of skin cells.

How to Use?

  • Squeeze out the juice from one whole lemon
  • Apply it on the elbows and knees and massage gently for few minutes
  • Leave it on for about 20 minutes
  • Wash it off with warm water and apply a good moisturizer
  • You may also extract the juice of one lemon and mix it with one tablespoon of honey
  • Apply it on the affected areas and leave it on for 20 minutes before rinsing it off with water
  • Repeat this remedy once daily for at least 2 to 3 weeks
  • Avoid exposure to the Sun after applying lemon juice at least for 3 hours as this will affect the skin
3. Yogurt

Yogurt contains lactic acid that helps in lightening the skin color. It also cleanses and moisturizes the skin.

  • Mix one teaspoon of plain yogurt and white vinegar to get a smooth paste
  • Apply it on the affected areas and let it dry
  • Rinse it off with warm water
  • Pat dry and apply a moisturizer
  • Alternatively, you may also mix 2 tablespoons of gram flour to one tablespoon of plain yogurt and make a thick paste
  • Apply this on the darkened elbows and knees and leave it on for 20 minutes
  • Rub it with wet fingers to remove the paste and rinse it with water
  • Repeat this twice or thrice a week
4. Sugar

Sugar helps in exfoliating the dead skin cells from the dark elbows and knees. It can be made into a simple homemade pack to lighten and soften the skin in those areas.

  • Mix two tablespoons of sugar and olive oil to make a thick paste
  • Apply this paste on the elbows and knees and scrub it for few minutes
  • Wash it off using a mild soap and lukewarm water

5. Baking Soda

Baking soda acts as a mild cleanser and is very effective lightening dark elbows and knees. It mildly exfoliates the dead skin cells and reduces hyper-pigmentation.

  • Prepare a paste with one tablespoon each of milk and baking soda
