Curly hairs look great but managing them is a big task. Few people have naturally curly hair. This is due to the twisted shape of the hair follicle. The more the twists, the more curls. Some can easily manage those curls but some consider it as a bane. The best thing about curly hair is that, it always looks voluminous, bouncy and beautiful. At the same time, it can often turn unruly, dry, difficult to manage and style and the biggest problem, frizz.


Frizzy hair is the result of humidity and it makes the hair more prone to split ends and breakage. Brushing them worsens this problem. Conditioning is the ultimate way to keep away the frizz and manage those locks. Market is flooding with various conditioners that claim to smoothen the frizzy curls. These products may give immediate results but the harmful chemicals in it will damage the hair in the long run. It is always good to adopt natural and home-made remedies to tame the curls.

Home Remedies for Curly Hair

1. Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar is one of the best remedies to define the natural curls and prevent frizz. It has pH balancing effects due to the acidic nature of ACV. It helps in making the hair less frizzy and gives it a healthy shine. It also works as a natural hair clarifier that removes event eh product buildup from the hair.


How to Use?

  • Mix half-a-cup of apple cider vinegar to equal amount of water
  • Use this to rinse the hair after shampoo
  • Let it sit for few minutes
  • Rinse with cold water
  • Repeat this remedy at least once or twice a month
2. Beer

Beer helps in restoring the moisture in the hair and makes it softer and shinier. It revitalizes the curls and makes it more bouncy. Dark and non-alcoholic beer is recommended to manage curly hair.


How to Use?

  • Wash the hair with regular shampoo and rinse the hair
  • Slowly pour the beer, covering each strand of hair
  • Let it sit in the hair for about five minutes so that it penetrate the hair shafts well
  • Rinse the hair with cold water
  • Use this remedy once in every two weeks
3. Hot Oil Massage

Curly hair is prone to drying and so it should be regularly nourished with a hot oil massage. This massage helps in restoring the moisture and helps in avoiding frizz. You may use olive oil, coconut oil or almond oil for this.


How to Use?

  • Warm some oil in the microwave for few seconds
  • Allow the oil to cool down till its comfortably warm
  • Apply the oil on the scalp and gently massage from root to tip
  • Put on a shower cap and then warp the head in a hot towel
  • Leave it on for one hour and then shampoo the hair
  • Apply a good conditioner after shampoo
  • Repeat this at least once a week
4. Eggs

Eggs are loaded with proteins and fat content the helps in adding moisture to the curly frizzy hair. It helps in restoring the natural shine to the hair. It has been popular among the people with curly hair.


How to Use?

  • Whish an egg and mix two teaspoons of olive oil and one tablespoon of mayonnaise
  • Apply it on the hair and leave it for about 30 minutes
  • Thoroughly wash the hair with cold water
  • Alternatively, you can mix one beaten egg with two tablespoons of olive oil and one-fourth cup of pureed cucumber
  • Massage this mixture into the hair from scalps to the tip
  • Cover the hair with a shower cap
  • Leave it on for 30 minutes and then shampoo the hair
  • Repeat this remedy once a week
5. Avocado

Avocado is an effective remedy for curly hair. It has great moisturizing property that helps in managing the curls by hydrating it and making it shinier.


How to Use?

  • Mix one mashed avocado and two tablespoons of yogurt to make a smooth creamy paste
  • Apply this paste on the hair and let it sit for an hour
  • Rinse it well with a shampoo
  • Alternatively, mash an entire avocado to make a paste along with a splash of olive oil
  • You may also add some coconut milk
  • After shampooing the hair, apply this home-made mask
  • Let it sit for at least one hour before rinsing it
  • You may also make a hair mask using ripe banana and avocado with one spoon of almond oil
  • Massage it into the hair and leave it on for 20 minutes
  • Wash the hair with regular shampoo
6. Fenugreek Seeds

Fenugreek is an excellent herb for curly hair. It has high levels of lecithin, which is an emulsifying agent. This helps in locking the moisture and makes the hair strands more flexible by blocking out humidity. This in turn decreases frizz and makes the hair look fuller.



How to Use?

  • Soak three to five teaspoons of fenugreek seeds in the water overnight
  • The next morning, grind the soaked seeds to make a thick paste
  • Mix three tablespoons of plain yogurt and one tablespoon of olive oil to the paste
  • Massage the paste onto the scalp and throughout the hair
  • Leave it on for at least an hour before rinsing it with warm water
  • Shampoo the hair and repeat this remedy at least twice a week
