Unexplained or intermittent crying one or two times a day by a healthy well-fed child is defined as colic in babies. Mostly the crying bouts last for a few hours every day or may occur thrice for three or more weeks. It is a problem found in 5 to 25 percent of the infants. 1. Warm Bath

  • Fill the bathtub with warm water
  • Add a few drops of lavender oil
  • Bathe the baby in this water
  • Massage the tummy area gently to relieve painful trapped gas

2. Warm Compress

Warm compress is yet another effective method of healing colic fast. This can be used on the baby’s tummy area to provide relief from the trapped gas.

  • Damp a soft towel in warm water and wring out the excess water

7. Basil

  • Add one teaspoon of dried basil leave to a cup of boiling water and allow it to steep for 10 minutes
  • Strain and allow it to cool the mixture and give one or two teaspoon to the baby a few times daily
  • Breastfeeding mothers can also drink this tea twice or thrice daily
  • Another good option is to grind one tablespoon of basil leaves with a little water and make a paste
  • Apply this paste on the baby’s navel and abdomen and allow it to dry
  • Then gently wipe it off with a wet tissue
  • Repeat this as and when needed
8. Fennel Seeds

Fennel is a great ingredient for colicky babies. It relieves gas and alleviates stomach-related discomforts. Both mothers and babies can reap benefits of fennel seeds.

  • Add one teaspoon of crushed fennel seeds to one cup of hot water
  • Cover and steep for 10 to 15 minutes and then strain the mixture
  • Breastfeeding mothers can drink this tea twice or thrice a day
  • Small babies can be given half to one teaspoon of this herbal tea thrice a day
