Apart from the above methods, there are several home remedies that come handy in controlling this problem. Most of the ingredients used are very easily available and are free from side-effects.


Fennel seeds are excellent mouth fresheners and so they are served in most of the restaurants after the meal. It contains antimicrobial properties that fight against bacterial build-up.


Method of Usage

  • Chew a spoonful of fennel seeds slowly. This not only acts as a mouth freshener, but also stimulates the production of saliva.
  • Drinking fennel tea made by steeping a spoonful of fennel seeds in hot water for few minutes is also beneficial in controlling bad breath.

Cinnamon consists of cinnamic aldehyde, an essential oil that not only reduces bad breath but also controls the bacterial growth in the mouth. It is an effective remedy and has to done at least twice a day.


Method of Usage

  • Boil one spoon of cinnamon powder in a cup of water
  • Add some bay leaves and cardamom
  • Allow it to cool and strain the solution
  • Rinse the mouth twice a day with this solution

Fenugreek tea is considered to be very effective in removing bad breath caused due to catarrhal infections.

  • Boil one teaspoon of fenugreek seeds in a cup of water
  • Strain the mixture and allow it to cool
  • Use the mixture as a mouth wash to refresh the breath and reduce the infection

Cloves have antibacterial property that prevents any bacterial growth in the mouth and thereby reducing bad breath problem. It is also very effective in curing oral inflammations.


Method of usage

  • The best way is to pop 2-3 cloves and chew it to remove bad breath instantly
  • Alternatively, you can also make clove tea by boiling a cup of water and adding one spoonful of ground cloves to it
  • Allow the cloves to steep in hot water for some time and then strain the mixture
  • Drink this tea once or twice a day to remove bad breath

Parsley is a natural mouth freshener due to the presence of chlorophyll in it.

  • Chew some parsley sprig for instant freshness
  • Parsley leaves dipped in vinegar can also be used for the same purpose
  • Alternatively, you can prepare a glass of parsley juice and sip it anytime of the day to control bad breath and also aid in digestion

Lemons have been used since ages to cure bad breath problems. The acidic nature of the lemon helps in preventing bacteria and also in masking the bad odor from the mouth.

  • Stir a tablespoon of lemon juice in a cup of water and rinse the mouth thoroughly with it
  • Also you may add a bit of salt to the lemon juice before the rinse

Apple cider Vinegar

Apple Cider Vinegar has pH balancing effect that proves to be an effective remedy for bad breath.


Method of Usage

  • Stir a tablespoon of raw, unfiltered apple cider vinegar in a glass of water
  • Drink this mixture 20 minutes before meal to control bad breath as well as aid in digestion
  • Gargle a mixture of apple cider vinegar mixed with water
Baking Soda

Baking soda or bicarbonate of soda is yet another effective solution for getting rid of bad breath problem. It helps in balancing the acidic levels and also fights against any bacterial build-up in the mouth.


Method of Usage

  • Mix one-half teaspoon of baking soda to a cup of lukewarm water
  • Use this mixture to rinse the mouth once in a day
  • Alternatively, you may also brush your teeth with baking soda
  • This whitens the teeth and also prevents bacterial build-up on the tongue and entire mouth
Herbal Tea

Herbal tea is useful to combat bad breath due to the presence of polyphenols present in both black and green tea. These polyphenols does not allow the bacteria to flourish in the body. It kills the harmful bacteria that are the main reason for the bad breath.

  • Herbal teas like sage tea can be prepared by steeping one spoonful of dried sage in a cup of hot water
  • Strain the mixture and drink this tea 2-3 times a day to keep the breath fresh
