Split ends can make the hair look dull and ugly. It is a medical condition called trichoptilosis which is caused by thermal, mechanical or chemical stress on the hair that rips the protective outer layer of the cuticle. Mostly people trim it off as and when it occurs. But this is not the permanent solution to treating those damaged hair follicle especially when you are trying to grow long hair.

  • Overexposure to Sun, pollution, dust or chemicals
  • Using hot water for washing the hair
  • Harsh shampoos
  • Too many styling products
  • Hard water
  • Not trimming regularly
  • Heat treatment – hair dryers, straightners or curlers
  • Wrong hair brush
  • Teasing back
  • Holding sprays or mousse

One of the popular methods of growing healthy hair or repairing the dull and lifeless mane is by using egg. The egg whites are rich in vitamin E which is beneficial for the hair and skin. However the egg yolk can be discarded because it is difficult to get rid of the smell later on.

  • Separate the yolk from two eggs and keep the egg whites
  • Whisk the egg white along with two spoons of olive oil
  • Apply this mixture on the scalp and along the length of the hair and leave it for half an hour

2. Hot oil Treatment

Hot oil treatment is popular for its deep nourishing and conditioning action on the hair. Many celebrities swear by this method of growing long and lustrous hair. 7.Clarified Butter or Ghee

  • Massage the scalp and rub it on the split ends
  • Keep it for three to four hours or leave it overnight
  • Rinse it properly by mild shampoo in lukewarm water

Tips to Prevent Split Ends

  • Avoid brushing when the hair is wet
  • Avoid excess usage of hair styling products
  • Cover your hair with a scarf when outdoors
  • Trim the hair at least an inch every two months
