1) Brachial Neuritis

Idiopathic brachial neuritis (IBN), also known as neuralgic amyotrophy, acute shoulder neuritis, acute brachial neuritis, idiopathic brachial plexus neuropathy or Parsonage-Turner syndrome is a disorder of unknown etiology with asymmetric involvement of the brachial plexus. It usually affects young adults and presents with acute severe shoulder pain lasting days to weeks followed by painless paresis of the upper extremity with slow but gradual recovery. Although in typical cases clinical diagnosis is easy to establish, in atypical presentations or situations where the treating physician is not familiar with this condition, misdiagnosis leading to multiple unnecessary diagnostic and therapeutic interventions can occur. Diagnostic tests such as electromyography and nerve conduction studies (EMG/NCS), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the shoulder, or cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) examination are not required, but can support the diagnosis and rule out other conditions. Good clinical history and examination are key to a correct diagnosis.9 We present a complex case of IBN and discuss the more important aspects of the disease.

2) Cranial neuritis

The cranial nerves are those that arise directly from your brain or brainstem and often affect areas like the face and eyes. Some of the different types of cranial neuropathies include:

Bell’s palsy. This condition occurs when the facial nerve (seventh cranial nerve) is affected.

Microvascular cranial nerve palsy. This condition affects the nerves in the eye. It is most common in people who have diabetes and in those who have high blood pressure.

Third nerve palsy. This condition affects the third cranial nerve. This nerve helps to manage a muscle that controls eye movement.

Fourth nerve palsy. This is also called superior oblique palsy. It affects the superior oblique muscle, which also helps control eye movement. That muscle is controlled by the fourth cranial nerve.

Sixth nerve palsy. This is also called cranial nerve VI palsy. It affects the sixth cranial nerve, which also helps control eye movement.

If several different cranial nerves are affected, it is called multiple cranial neuropathies (MCN).

3) Optic Neuritis

Optic neuritis is a demyelinating inflammation of the optic nerve. It is also known as optic papillitis (when the head of the optic nerve is involved) and retrobulbar neuritis (when the posterior of the nerve is involved). It is most often caused by multiple sclerosis, and it may lead to complete or partial loss of vision in one or both eyes.

Partial, transient vision loss lasting less than one hour can be a indication of early onset multiple sclerosis. Other possible diagnoses include: diabetes mellitus, low phosphorus levels, or hyperkalaemia.

4) Vestibular Neuritis

Vestibular neuritis and labyrinthitis are disorders resulting from an infection that inflames the inner ear or the nerves connecting the inner ear to the brain. This inflammation disrupts the transmission of sensory information from the ear to the brain. Vertigo, dizziness, and difficulties with balance, vision, or hearing may result.

Infections of the inner ear are usually viral; less commonly, the cause is bacterial. Such inner ear infections are not the same as middle ear infections, which are the type of bacterial infections common in childhood affecting the area around the eardrum.
