Chafing Home Remedies


If you have a job in which two body parts repeatedly rubs against each other, you might be frequent victim of chafing. It is also the same case with those carrying a bit extra weight and practicing sports as a hobby or profession. The rubbing often results in redness and pain follows the red color. Although chafing can occur with nearly any body part with skin, the most common areas affected are around the groin, underarms, nipples, and inside the thighs. Those who are overweight are more susceptible to this condition, and sweating in summers makes its chances even more.

Chafing can be described as a skin infection that leads to red sores, pain and itching on the affected area. Acute burning sensation and swelling are the common symptoms for chafing at its peak. Here is a list of some simple yet effective home remedies for chafing with which you can treat your skin ailment called chafing at home itself, you would not need a doctor for sure.

Home Remedies For Chafing  

 

Aloe vera

Aloe plant is generally called first aid plant as it can be used in almost every skin ailment to give instant relief. It is so because of excellent skin repairing, anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties that aloe vera gel has. Due to all these it is the first thing that comes to our mind when we see the initiation of chafing marked by redness.

All you have to do is take an aloe vera leaf, tear it apart from the middle and the gel which comes out of it is what you need. Apply that gel swiftly on the skin affected by chafing to see it vanishing very fast. Repeat this practice two times a day till you feel the skin is uneven. If it is not possible to get the leaf, you can go for aloe vera ointment which can be taken from any grocery store, but go for the most natural one. It will definitely stop pain and reduce redness, and act as a very active home remedy for chafing.

 

Coconut oil

Coconut oil is an excellent remedy for solving almost all skin problems. It contains vitamin E which is anti- fungal and anti- bacterial in nature due to the presence of fatty acids. It stops any type of bacterial activity on the skin affected by chafing that can worsen the condition, and hence act as an effective home remedy for chafing . Apply coconut oil on both the surfaces of the skin that keep on rubbing with each other in order to treat chafing and avoid it.

 

Lavender oil

The use of lavender oil is not new in healing various types of wounds; it has been used in the field from hundreds of years. This makes it a reliable home remedy for chafing in treating chafing as well. This is highly effective and hence can be used to treat severe red and swollen skin due to chemicals. You will feel relief instantly when you apply lavender oil on your skin tissues affected by burns. But applying it in pure form is not suggested, you have to dilute it before applying. Take one tablespoon of lavender oil and mix it with two tablespoons of water. Apply with a soft cloth or cotton on the skin affected.

 

 

Ice pack

Giving a cold compress to the skin affected by chafing makes them disappear faster and also reduce inflammation. You can take some ice cubes and wrap them in a cloth, as applying ice directly on skin is not a good idea. Rub that cloth gently on the affected skin for a few minutes, and your will surely get relief from pain and swelling. You can do the same twice in a day till you find the chafing disappearing. Ice pack is a great  home remedy for chafing.

 

Drink a lot of water

Drink plenty of water. As you lose water through sweating, the salts in the sweat become more concentrated. These salts in turn irritate the skin and can contribute to chafing. Staying hydrated helps dilute the salts; hence make sure you drink water before, during and after workouts. Not only in chafing alone, drinking water is helpful, but for other health ailments as well it has a major role to play. Some extra litres prove to be excellent home remedy for chafing.

 

 

Keep it clean and dry

I know it is not so comfortable but you should wash the area to keep it clean and infection free. To make sure it heals up soon wash it with cold water, and then slowly pat dry with a soft cotton cloth. If you can, use soap as disinfectant while washing. It will bring a burning sensation but it is really recommended. After washing the area, it is equally crucial to wipe the water away with a soft cotton cloth. Hygiene is the best  home remedy for chafing.

Oatmeal

Oatmeal also contains anti-inflammatory properties, and is a very effective home remedy for chafing . It can tackle chafing developed due to any reason and on any part of our body. All you need to erase any type of chafing from your skin is to grind oatmeal very finely in a grinder. Mix a cup of it in lukewarm water and then soak your rash affected skin in that water for about half an hour.

 

Neem leaves

Neem has alkaloids that make it anti-bacterial, anti-contagious and antiviral in nature and a very potent home remedies for chafing. Apart from dealing with chafing winningly neem has many medicinal properties. You can crush the neem leaves and then apply it on the affected area. One can also choose to have bath in water with neem leaves boiled into it.

 

Check on your cloths

What you wear also matters especially, if you involve yourself in activities that demand you to sweat it out. Be sure about not wearing very tight cloths that do not allow air to pass through them, prefer to wear cotton and loose fitting clothes. It is important to let your body breathe. This will allow the air to easily circulate and will keep moisture and sweat away from the chafing affected skin. If you suffer from chafing near thighs, avoid wearing synthetic or silk underwear and only go for cotton underwear or some other type of natural fiber underwear and loose-fitting clothing. Totally stay away from tight fitted cloths as they increases chafing and worsen the condition, giving you a very natural  home remedy for chafing.
